The Hometown Hero Banner Program provides the opportunity for a member of the public to purchase a military recognition banner (click here for banner details), and have it displayed on city light posts (click here for map), to commemorate the service of a Hometown Hero. For complete program details and guidelines please consult the official program policy and guidelines.
Proof of eligibility must be submitted before an application is considered complete. Residential eligiblity would be established by a copy of a utility bill, driver's license, or other similar item. Military eligibility would be established by presenting a military ID, DD-214, or other similar item.
Additionally, a high resolution digital image (minimum 300 dpi) in jpeg format, or 5x7 (or larger) photo of the honoree in official uniform (no objects) will need to be submitted.
Applications can be submitted three ways:
- One form can be used to nominate and sponsor the same banner. The application will be considered complete when payment is received and will be placed on the list for installation.
- Unfunded nominations can be submitted by individuals wishing to "nominate a veteran, but see if a sponsor is available" (please check the appropriate box on the application form). These will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis as sponsorship funds become available.
- Sponsors who wish to donate money to sponsor unfunded nominations on a first-come, first-served basis can fill out the sponsor section and submit payment.
Applications are accepted on a year-round basis and every effort will be made to have banners installed twice a year before Veteran’s Day (in November) and Memorial Day (in May). Applicants will be notified by City staff once an installation date has been determined.
