Vacaville Fire Department Plans Controlled Training Burn in Lagoon Valley for Oct. 7
Members of the Vacaville Fire Department’s Academy are scheduled to participate in a controlled burn in Lagoon Valley near Nelson Road on Monday, Oct. 7 as part of their training. Scheduled from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather depending, this is more than a training exercise. It is an essential fire preventing measure.
The area in Lagoon Valley that they will burn is prone to large fires and the Vacaville Fire Department selected the location to take preventative measures with the fall fire danger season looming. September through November are typically high fire months and it is important to execute controlled burns to reduce fuel levels, and thus the risk of fire.
Smoke will be particularly noticeable from I-80 as well as in town in the Lagoon Valley and the Alamo areas. Motorists and residents should not be alarmed if they notice smoke during this training exercise.
Nine new recruits began this year’s 16-week Fire Training Academy on Sept. 16.Cal Fire will be assisting the Vacaville Fire Department with the exercise.
