HYDRANT METER PROCESS
Use of water from the City's fire hydrants requires a Hydrant Meter. The customer places a $250.00 deposit in the Finance Department and brings their receipt to the Public Works counter. A permit is written, which includes the number and reading of the meter. The customer then takes a copy of the permit and the meter with them. The customer will be charged $15.15 per day for the rental of the meter, and an additional charge for the water used. Water will be billed at 3 times the second tier rate for each unit of water (one unit = 748 gallons).
Upon completion of usage of the meter, the customer returns the meter to the Public Works counter, and is given a receipt with the final meter reading. A billing worksheet is processed and sent to the Finance Division, which then processes a request to refund the remaining deposit.
Exceptions:
- Capital Improvement Projects are provided Hydrant Meters free of charge, although a permit must still issued, in order to track the meter number and water usage.
- Some contractors elect to keep their deposit "on hold", in order to avoid writing checks for the deposit each time they need a meter.
