History

Great Wonders PlaygroundBack in 1993, residents of Vacaville came together to build what would eventually become a landmark of sorts in our City. After public input and design, Great Wonders Playground was constructed in Andrews Park by volunteers to serve the children of Vacaville. Sadly, shortly after the structure was built, vandals burnt it to the ground. But rather than let that setback bring the dream to an end, the residents banded together and rebuilt the park, with the structure rising from the ashes to become one of the most-loved playgrounds in the entire City.  Since the completion of the project, thousands of children have used the structure, their imaginations running wild as they ran through the maze of walkways, slides, poles and other elements of the playground - including a large dragon!

2008 - Re-creating the wonder

Great Wonders Tower StructureAfter 15 years of heavy use, the process of rebuilding the much-loved but well-worn Great Wonders Playground in Andrews Park is underway.  The park is still usable and quite popular, but is in need of repair.

Leathers Associates, selected by the City to design the new playground, has been meeting with Vacaville schoolchildren to learn what the children would like to see included in the project. Leathers Associates was instrumental in building the original playground in 1993.

$150,000 was been contributed by the City of Vacaville.  Vacaville Sunrise Rotary raised additional funds for the project, while other fund-raising efforts were also held.
