Image of Vacaville's Old Town Hall from 1907This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Vacaville Heritage Council.  The Vacaville Heritage Council is a non-profit historical archives and research organization specializing in local history, located in downtown Vacaville in the Old Town Hall.   The Old Town Hall is registered with the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1907.  The building originally housed the Police Department, Council Chambers, Fire Department and Jail.  As reported in the Vacaville Reporter on July 20, 1907 “It is doubtful if anywhere can be found a more substantial and at the same time handsome building than the new Vacaville town hall and county jail.”

From 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018  the Vacaville Heritage Council invites the public to tour the Old Town Hall.  Have your picture taken in one of the original jail cells, visit the Council Chambers upstairs and chat with representatives from local historical non-profit organizations including The Vaca Museum, Western Railway Museum, Peña Adobe Historical Society and the Travis Heritage Center.

The Vacaville Heritage Council began organizing in 1968, today their collection includes over 8,000 historic photographs dating back to the 1850’s.  Photos from the collection will be on display during the anniversary celebration.  Come see if you recognize Vacaville when the DeVille was the Clark Theater or when the Vacaville Creamery was the social hang out of the young!  Meet local authors and historians, including Jerry Bowen, who has been an active member of the Vacaville Heritage Council for twenty six years.  There will be activities for children, food and music, so help celebrate 50 years of history research with the Vacaville Heritage Council!

The Old Town Hall is located at 618 E. Main Street in downtown Vacaville, next to Vasquez Deli.  Visit our website at www.vacavilleheritagecouncil.org, email us at vacaville.heritagecouncil@gmail.com or call (707) 447-0518 for more information.
