The Solano Family Justice Center, a division of the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, invites everyone to register to attend the 2018 Courage Conference, a two-day children’s advocacy awareness event hosted at the NorthBay Healthcare Administration & Conference Center, 4500 Business Center Drive, Fairfield on February 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The Courage Conference, presented by the Solano Trauma Recovery Center and Courage Center 2, and sponsored in part by First 5 Solano and NorthBay Healthcare, will feature Dr. Jim Hopper, a clinical psychologist and independent consultant as the keynote speaker. Dr. Hopper is nationally recognized for his expertise on psychological trauma, and will discuss the psychological and biological effects of child abuse and sexual assault, including practices for healing and meditation.
Participants will also get to meet and hear from Midsi Sanchez, a kidnapping survivor, who will share her heroic story about her escape from the hands of a serial killer – who chained her up in his car for days when she was eight-years old – before she finally managed to break free.
The conference will feature experts who will share their knowledge, expertise, strategies, experience and best practices on a variety of topics, including:
- Assessing and Treating Juveniles with Sexual Behavior Problems
- Ensuring Racial Justice in Trauma Informed Approaches
- Trauma and the African American Experience & Self Care
- Sexual Assault: Brain, Experience, Behavior & Memory
“The conference is designed to bring awareness to our community about important issues that affect everyone,” says Hayley Armstrong, Coordinator of the Courage Center 2. “We encourage anyone who feels they could learn from this experience to join us and our community partners.”
